VOLUNTEERING IN MEXICO
Chiapas, officially called Free and Sovereign State of Chiapas, is one of the 32 mexican states. Located in the southeast of the country, bordered by the states of Oaxaca to the west Veracruz to the northwest, Tabasco to the north, and on the east by the republic of Guatemala. The state capital is Tuxtla Gutierrez, which concentrates about one eighth of the Chiapas population. It currently has 122 official towns.
The volume of agricultural production makes that Chiapas take up a prominent place in Mexico , especially the coffee and corn production.
In addition, Chiapas has several tourist destinations, some of them are the most important tourist attractions in Mexico , such as the archaeological site of Palenque and Agua Azul waterfalls. These places attract a large number of tourists.
The name "Chiapas" derives from "Chiapan" the name of an indigenous population
